Exhibition "Hans Greil" at Museum Ebensee
Hans Greil (1845–1909) was a teacher and the first director of the Wood Trade School in Hallstatt and later of the Wood Trade School in Ebensee. Alongside his work as an educator, he was a renowned wood sculptor and carver whose significance extended far beyond the Salzkammergut. Greil created altars such as the high altar in Litschau and the altar of the castle chapel in Wallsee. He also designed, among other things, the model for the Franz Carl Brunnen in Bad Ischl. The Stations of the Cross images on the Kalvarienberg and the tabernacle in the Catholic parish church in Ebensee are likewise the work of Hans Greil.
The Museum Ebensee is dedicating a small exhibition to this artist and pioneer of woodcarving in the Salzkammergut, on view from 9 July during the museum's opening hours.
