Exhibition "Hans Greil" at Museum.Ebensee
Hans Greil (1845–1909) – teacher of a generation and pioneer of woodcarving in the Salzkammergut. As a teacher and the first director of the Hallstatt School of Woodcraft and later of the Ebensee School of Woodcraft, he was not only an educator but also a renowned wood sculptor and carver whose significance reached far beyond the Salzkammergut.
Greil created altarpieces such as the high altar in Litschau and the altar of the Wallsee Castle Chapel. He also designed, among other works, the model for the Franz Carl Fountain in Bad Ischl. The Stations of the Cross on the Kalvarienberg and the tabernacle in the Catholic parish church in Ebensee also originate from Hans Greil.
Museum. Ebensee dedicates a small exhibition to this artist and pioneer of woodcarving in the Salzkammergut, which can be viewed from 9 July during the museum's opening hours.
