Yoga - Ashtanga Inspired
"Ashtanga yoga is a life philosophy, a way of living, a journey whose goal is to find yourself. The Sanskrit word 'Yoga' means 'to unite' – referring to the union of body, mind, and soul. 'Ashtanga' means the eight-limbed path. One of these paths consists of the physical postures (Asanas). Through dynamic movement elements (Vinyasa), these postures are linked together. The foundation of the entire system is a special, deep breathing technique (Ujjayi breathing) – every Asana is guided by the breath. In addition, certain muscular locks (Bandhas) are held, which strengthen our core and ease our balance. Gaze points (Drishtis) keep us focused. Through the dynamic nature of yoga, we achieve an optimal heating of the body, which helps us to stretch and purify it. At the same time, we practice bringing body, mind, and soul back into balance through concentration, meditation, and steady breathing. Beyond the practice of physical postures, yoga also includes ways of conduct such as non-violence, mindfulness towards ourselves and others, love of truth, self-discipline, breath exercises, meditation... Like many other schools of yoga, Ashtanga yoga has its origins in India. This ancient form of yoga was documented by the Indian sage Patanjali and has been spread since the 1930s by the father of Ashtanga yoga, Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore. In truth, Ashtanga yoga is suitable for anyone who feels drawn to its contents. In its full expression, Ashtanga yoga is a very dynamic and powerful form of yoga. However, the degree of dynamism should – or rather must – be adapted to individual needs." - Margit Brandstetter
