Yoga - Ashtanga Inspired
Ashtanga Yoga is a philosophy of life, a way of living, a journey whose goal is to find oneself. The Sanskrit word "Yoga" means "to connect," referring to the connection of body, mind, and soul. "Ashtanga" means the eightfold path. One of these paths consists of the physical postures (asanas). These postures are linked together through dynamic movement elements (vinyasa). The foundation of the entire system is a special, deep breathing technique (ujjayi breath) – each asana is guided by the breath. In addition, certain muscle locks (bandhas) are held, which strengthen our core and make balancing easier. Gaze points (drishtis) help us maintain concentration. Through the dynamic nature of yoga, we achieve an optimal level of body heat, which helps us to stretch and purify the body. At the same time, we practice concentration, meditation, and steady breathing to bring body, mind, and soul back into balance. Beyond practicing physical postures, yoga also includes principles such as non-violence, mindfulness toward oneself and others, truthfulness, self-discipline, breathing exercises, and meditation.
Like many other schools of yoga, Ashtanga Yoga has its origins in India. This ancient form of yoga was recorded by the Indian sage Patanjali and has been disseminated since the 1930s by the father of Ashtanga Yoga, Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore.
In principle, Ashtanga Yoga is suitable for anyone who feels drawn to its content. In its full expression, Ashtanga Yoga is a very dynamic and powerful form of yoga. However, the level of dynamism should or must be adapted to individual needs.
