Looking Over the Shoulders of Bakers: Live Baumkuchen Baking in Bad Ischl

At the live Baumkuchen baking event hosted by Bäckerei Nahmer at the Auböckplatz in Bad Ischl, you can experience up close how this fine specialty is created layer by layer on a rotating roller. This traditional craft takes place as part of the annual Kaiserbummel.

The Baumkuchen is a delicate pastry made from a light batter, applied in layers onto a rotating roller and baked over an open flame. When sliced, the baked layers reveal rings that resemble the growth rings of a tree. Because of its elaborate handcraft, it is also called the "King of Cakes."
