Hans Greil (1845–1909), teacher and first director of the Hallstatt School of Woodcraft and later of the Ebensee School of Woodcraft, was not only an educator but also a renowned wood sculptor and carver whose significance extended far beyond the Salzkammergut region. Greil created altarpieces such as the high altar in Litschau and the altar of the Wallsee Castle Chapel. He also designed the model for the Franz Carl Fountain in Bad Ischl.
