Over All the Peaks is Peace – A German Poets' Day Around 1980

Thomas Bernhard's comedy, premiered in 1982, centers on the writer Moritz Meister, who so loves to present himself as the German Prince of Poets. It was once received quite critically in the German feuilleton, though the audience greeted it with approval. Hellmuth Karasek noted sardonically in "Der Spiegel" that "some critics had grumbled that the audience had laughed."

In fact, "Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh" is a feather-light yet subtly witty comedy full of allusions to vain poet worship and a cultural industry spinning pointlessly in circles: profound, comedic – and self-ironic all at once.
