Querschläger – Gegenwind

When the Querschläger began their musical journey in the Lungau in 1990, no one could have foreseen that it would grow into one of the most distinctive acts on the Austrian music scene. What started as an insider tip developed over more than three decades, more than 900 concerts and countless stages into a cult band that consistently defies categorisation. Independent of record labels and passing trends, the Querschläger have forged their very own style: dialect-rooted music with lyrical depth, paired with musical cabaret, subtle humour and surprising seriousness. Their trademark is the deliberate collision of opposites – musical, linguistic and thematic – giving rise to something singular with great emotional force. In their songs, familiar musical elements from blues, rock, folk and Volksmusik are reframed and filled with stories, characters and observations drawn from everyday life. The concept of Heimat runs through their work like a common thread – caught between idyll and reality, wistfulness and analysis, satire and earnestness. All of this is delivered in the inner-mountain dialect of the Lungau, without raising a moralising finger, but with a deep closeness to people.
