Watch Bakers at Work: Live Baumkuchen Baking in Bad Ischl

At the live Baumkuchen baking event hosted by Bäckerei Nahmer at Auböckplatz in Bad Ischl, you can experience up close how this exquisite specialty is created layer by layer on a rotating spit. This traditional craft takes place as part of the annual Kaiserbummel.

The Baumkuchen is a delicate pastry made from a light sponge batter, applied in layers onto a rotating spit and baked over an open flame. When sliced, the baked layers reveal rings reminiscent of the growth rings of a tree. Due to its elaborate handcraft, it is also known as the "King of Cakes."
