Hans Greil (1845–1909), teacher and first director of the Hallstatt School of Wood, and later the Ebensee School of Wood, was, alongside his educational work, also a renowned wood sculptor and carver whose significance extended far beyond the Salzkammergut. Greil created altars such as the high altar in Litschau and the altar of the Wallsee Castle Chapel. He also designed, among other things, the model for the Franz Carl Fountain in Bad Ischl.
