Her engagement with her own Carinthian homeland has quite literally driven the artist to explore the most diverse artistic expressions of hunting: from mandala to animated film, all the way to the printed hunting collage for the dining room. We should be on our guard! Waidmannsheil! Ina Loitzl embroiders, sews, cuts, prints, paints, and films – wholeheartedly in keeping with her subject, folk culture. In her artistic practice she combines handcraft with kitsch and media imagery, unmasking being and seeming. She presents an image that on the surface conveys a zest for life, yet at the same time points to its rigid, constraining conventions and attributions. By confronting aspects of traditional customs with modern lived reality and placing them within a global frame of reference, she distinguishes on the one hand authentic folk traditions from emotionally charged provincial nostalgia, and on the other hand deciphers the abyssal and abusive appropriation of their content. For, as Otto von Bismarck once said… "… there are three things in life that are never honestly described: the motives of a man's politics, the raison d'être of a war, and the details of a hunt."
