The title alone promises musical delight, sentiment, and hearty humor with a well-measured dash of Hungarian flair. To escape her pushy admirers, Countess Mariza flees to her country estate in Hungary and pretends to be engaged to the fictitious Count Zsupán. When the imaginary marriage candidate suddenly appears very much in the flesh and cheerfully tries to abduct his beloved to Varasdin, cheerful and emotional chaos ensues. An impoverished, mysterious estate manager
