Her engagement with her own Carinthian homeland has quite literally driven the artist to explore the most diverse forms of hunting: from mandalas to animated films to printed hunting collages for the dining room. We should be on our guard! Waidmannsheil! Ina Loitzl embroiders, sews, cuts, prints, paints, and films – wholeheartedly, in keeping with the subject of folk culture. In her artistic work she combines craftsmanship with kitsch and media imagery, unmasking being and illusion. She presents an image that on the surface conveys a zest for life, yet at the same time she points to its rigid, confining conventions and attributions. By confronting aspects of traditional customs with modern lived reality and placing them in a global context, she distinguishes authentic tradition from emotionally charged provincial nostalgia, and on the other hand deciphers the abyssal and abusive appropriation of its content. After all, as Otto von Bismarck once said… "...… there are three things that are never honestly described: love, politics, and hunting." – or rather: "…nothing is so often and so recklessly lied about as after a hunt."
