Guided Tours of the "Mammoth Cave" in Obertraun
A labyrinth of caves on a superlative scale: the infinite vastness of the Dachstein massif from the inside – the enormous Mammoth Cave will thrill you with its incredible dimensions and a play of colors you wouldn't expect beneath the surface of the Salzkammergut!
The name Mammoth Cave was chosen by its discoverers because of the sheer size of the underground chambers and passages in this cave system. To date, more than 70 kilometers of these passages have been explored, and just under one kilometer of them can be walked through during the guided tours.
During the approximately one-hour tours of the Mammoth Cave, visitors gain insight into the geological history of how caves are formed.
