The cave in the valley. For an excursion to the water-bearing Koppenbrüllerhöhle, you can simply start by car or of course on foot. A short walk from the parking lot leads directly to the cave entrance. Just a few steps into the cave, you are immersed in a completely different world: it is cool, damp and quiet. The water that has shaped the limestone over thousands of years is omnipresent – it drips from the ceiling, runs down the walls and collects in clear pools on the ground. The Koppenbrüllerhöhle is particularly impressive because of its active water circulation, which constantly creates new stalactites and sinter terraces. The cave is nestled idyllically in the Koppental, surrounded by dense forests and the striking rock landscape of the Dachstein massif. From the cave entrance, there is an impressive view of the opposite Sarstein and the Hirlatz above it. Already in the entrance area of the cave, visitors can feel the special atmosphere: pleasant temperatures, steady dripping and fascinating plays of light on damp rock walls.

The Koppenbrüllerhöhle is one of the few show caves in Austria that has largely retained its original character. It was only opened to tourism relatively late and therefore offers an authentic nature experience away from overly illuminated or commercially overdesigned facilities. The cave is also part of the extensive Dachstein cave system, which also includes the famous Dachstein Ice Cave and the Mammoth Cave.
