DECADENCE AND DOUBLE MORALITY - Nicole Beutler and Joseph Lorenz - Attergauer Kultursommer 2026

Raoul Auernheimer belonged to the literary circle "Jung-Wien" and maintained friendships and a lively exchange with Schnitzler, Bahr, and Hofmannsthal. In his highly amusing and pointed dialogue stories, he offers revealing insights into the world of the Fin de Siècle. In Eine mondäne Frau and Wiener Klatsch, the women cheat on their husbands with the greatest nonchalance. In Schnitzler's one-act cycle "Anatol," the title character loves and suffers as a love-sick Viennese bon vivant who, despite fleeting pleasures, feels only existential boredom as a "melancholic of love."

On the stage of the Narzbergergut, Nicole Beutler and Joseph Lorenz—two stars of TV and theatre of our day—offer insights into the spirit of such decadence. An evening that unsparingly satirises the social types of the era and exposes double morality.
