Exhibition Wolfgang Maria Reiter: Schrift.Bild

Wolfgang Maria Reiter writes the same text over and over in his works – a text that has stayed with him since his early childhood. Through constant repetition, the actual content of the text fades into the background; the writing itself becomes a means of design, and the act of writing turns into a repetitive, meditative process. The meaning always resonates within it, yet the central content of the works is form.

Reiter uses the continuous line of letters strung together to shape his pictures by writing, in a variety of formats. They range from miniatures to three-dimensional script objects that he folds and forms from written-on paper. Wolfgang Maria Reiter writes with wooden sticks and ink on tracing paper. The writing becomes a projection surface for the artist's sensations and moods – Norbert Trawöger calls his works "seismographic calligraphies."
